Dark macro aluminum foil packaging detail with smooth-wall foil tray, clear lid, foil roll, and lidding sheet

Aluminum foil packaging library

You can compare tray dimensions, lid fit and material choices in this foil packaging library. If your sample bends, the lid lifts or the pack takes up too much space, we can help you work through the detail.

Ask about your tray

When your lid almost fits

The top dimensions are a starting point. Your tray's rim profile, corners and fill height also affect how the lid sits.

The lid edge and the tray rim need to meet all the way around.

Where does it lift?

If one corner stays up, a close view of that corner helps us compare the rim and lid shape. If it fits empty but lifts after filling, the food height and pressure on the lid need checking too.

How will you close it?

A board lid held by a folded rim, a fitted plastic lid and a heat-sealed film each need a compatible tray edge. A lid that looks similar in a catalog may belong to a different closure system.

Which dimensions are you comparing?

Two foil packaging specifications can use the same size description and still refer to different measurement points. Your drawing is easier to match when those points are clear.

Top-out size
The overall length and width across the outside of the rim. This is different from the opening inside it.
Inside opening
The space within the rim. It matters when your food portion or filling equipment needs a particular opening.
Base and height
The base dimensions and the tray's vertical height. A deeper tray with the same top size can change packing and stacking.
Capacity
Brimful volume is measured to the top. Your usable fill needs room for the food and the chosen closure, so it may be lower.

Already have a dimensioned drawing? We can compare it with an existing mold before discussing new tooling.

Foil packaging thickness and tray strength

Foil packaging strength also depends on the shape, wall profile and load. If a tray bends in use, we need to know where and when it happens.

What you noticeWhat to compare
The base bows when filledFood weight, base shape and support during lifting. An empty sample will not show the same load.
The wall dents during handlingWall style, formed corners and where the tray is gripped. Foil thickness is part of that comparison.
Nested trays are hard to separateThe nesting shape and packing pressure. The number of trays in a stack can affect the handling check.
The rim changes after closingThe closure method and pressure around the edge. A fitted lid and a folded board lid place different demands on the rim.

Your foil packaging after filling

A foil packaging choice needs to suit the complete pack: tray, closure, coating and food. Each condition needs its own check; passing one does not establish the others.

The European Aluminium Foil Association describes the range of container and lidding options. Suitability for your process still depends on the specific product.

Heating and hot filling

Your heating method, temperature and time belong in the sample review. The lid or film may have different limits from the aluminum tray. We need the exact closure and coating before confirming a heating recommendation.

Chilled storage and freezing

The relevant check includes the filled tray, its closure and the handling after storage. If your packs then travel or reheat, that next step belongs in the trial as well.

Heat sealing and leakage

The film, sealing surface, machine settings and food all affect the result. A closed sample or a matching footprint alone cannot establish leak resistance or shelf life.

Print and food-contact surfaces

Your artwork may cover the outside while the inside uses a different surface treatment. We review the print side, coating and intended use together; color alone does not identify the material specification.

Your sample can settle the fit question

A photo helps us narrow the shape and wall style. A drawing gives us dimensions. With the actual tray and closure, you can check filling, closing and handling under your own conditions.

If you are changing one component, such as the lid or film, that combination needs another look. A previous result for a different pack does not confirm the new one.

For your technical review, we can discuss the specific fit or handling concern first. The sample approval checklist covers recording the agreed result; Quality & Documentation covers supporting files.
